*Kadampa
is a Tibetan term for a practitioner of the Buddhist tradition that originated in the 11th century with the teachings of Lord Atisha, one of the Indian adepts who brought Buddhism to Tibet. Ka means the teachings of the Buddha and Dam means personal instruction, thus, Kadampa refers to practitioners who take the Buddha's teachings as personal instruction.

This tradition stresses the importance of following a sequential course of study and meditation to develop the realizations necessary to remove all of one's problems and mental disturbances, in order to help others do the same for themselves. Key among these realizations are
generosity, ethical living, patience, joyfulness, mindfulness and wisdom.
